Submission compiled by the African Observatory on Responsible AI in response to the UN AI Interim Report on Governing AI for Humanity.
The Africa expert meeting on the UN Interim Report on Governing AI for Humanity took place on the 25th of March from 2PM to 4PM SAST. The aim of the meeting was to actively involve stakeholders by facilitating consultations to gather valuable input and feedback on the Interim Report, and address questions and concerns. The meeting was to address the UN’s Global Advisory Committee on AI released its Interim Report on Governing AI for Humanity, which was released in December 2023. The purpose of the report is to analyse and advance recommendations for the international governance of AI, addressing the global governance deficit and ensuring that AI technologies benefit all of humanity. It provided preliminary recommendations, outlined next steps for the development of the final report, and served as a basis for consultation with diverse stakeholders.
