In our May Mailer we are absolutely thrilled to announce the winners of the Meta Bursaries for the AI4D AfricAI Conference. The recipients of the Meta Bursaries will be attending the AfricAI Conference in Kigali, Rwanda in June 2023.
Also this month, the team from our sister project, the Global Index on Responsible Artificial Intelligence, attended Ibrahim Governance Week in Nairobi, hosted by the Mo Ibrahim Foundation. Research ICT Africa’s Programme Director Dr Rachel Adams presented on a panel hosted by the Paris Peace Forum where she spoke about the Global Index and the project’s experience as an awardee of the Paris Peace Forum’s Scale-up programme.
Whats more, the Global Index on Responsible AI has achieved another recognition! The project has been selected as one of the Top 100 Global AI Solutions for the United Nations’s SGDs, by the International Research Centre on Artificial Intelligence (IRCAI).

The successful candidates will be presenting their research on the themes of AI Ethics, Human Rights, and Policy/Governance in African AI Research. The winners will also be supported by the African Observatory in the publication of their work and will receive ongoing mentorship from our network.

The Global Index on Responsible AI at Ibrahim Governance Week
On Sunday, 30 April 2023, Research ICT Africa’s Programme Director Dr Rachel Adams participated in the Mo Ibrahim Governance Weekend session titled: ‘Paris Peace Forum’s Call for Solutions to Cover Global Challenges’. Dr Adams discussed the Global Index on Responsible Artificial Intelligence project, and her experience as an awardee of the Paris Peace Forum Scale-up programme. The programme has provided the Global Index project with mentorship and support to advance its reach and impact. The recording is available here.
This session introduced this year's Paris Peace Forum Call for Solutions, which invites actors addressing today's pressing issues to apply for a chance to be featured at the 6th edition of the Forum, to be held in Paris in November 2023. The Forum offers a variety of opportunities for projects, including: taking the stage and gaining visibility, networking with a wide range of global governance actors, or even developing your initiative through the Paris Peace Forum’s Scale-up programme. The Global Index on Responsible AI Receives Another Award!
We are pleased to announce that the Global Index on Responsible AI has received another recognition of its potential to support in the realisation of critical development challenges facing the world. The Global Index has been selected as one of the top 100 solutions for Sustainable Development Goals by the International Research Centre on Artificial Intelligence (IRCAI). This list of top 100 projects solving global problems is related to the 17 United Nations SDGs with the application of Artificial Intelligence.
