This report examines labor protections in AI deployment across the Global South, analyzing governance frameworks and strategies from the Global Index on Responsible AI to highlight the need for ethical AI policies that safeguard workers’ rights, promote social equity, and prevent exacerbation of inequalities.
This paper explores labor protections in the context of AI use and deployment in the Global South, focusing on national strategies and governance frameworks. Drawing on data from the Global Index on Responsible AI, it examines how countries in the region are balancing technological advancement with human-centered approaches to protect workers’ rights. The analysis highlights the importance of diversity in AI and social equity. By showcasing examples from the Global South, the paper underscores the need for policies that prioritize ethical AI practices, ensuring that technological progress does not compromise labor rights or exacerbate inequalities.
